Recovery Ambassadors

Want to be a Local Host?

This workshop is co-sponsored with a local/regional organization whose job is to enlist all those with a stake in conquering this epidemic and enhance their own effectiveness by participating in this event. The workshop is designed as a one-day program with two 100-minute sessions for the workshop. A 30-minute presentation is also included for a representative from Faces & Voices of Recovery campaign. The local organization is asked to secure a local person that is supportive of our efforts, either a public official; a presentation on the science of addiction or a local recovery leader. A text, workbook and other materials are included in the workshop which is supported by the Stepping Stones Foundation, the C. Charles Jackson Foundation and the Johnson Institute.

The Johnson Institute furnishes these items:
  1. Core Instruction from “Speaking Out” manual, including: Identifying Activists, Message Building, Organizing, Communications, Fund Raising and Team Renewal.
  2. Furnish textbooks and handouts for all participants.
  3. Certificates of Completion from Johnson Institute for participants.
  4. Travel, hotel, and all expenses for JI participation.
  5. Up to 2,000 flyers and mailers for event promotion.
  6. A policy review focused on issues: “Conquering America’s Addiction Epidemic in Our Lifetime.”
  7. Audio-visual equipment.
  8. Capture of registrants on the JI website.
The co-sponsoring organization will:
  1. Select and confirm a date and venue for the workshop.
  2. Provide additional programming that might be appropriate to the area, your mission and your opportunities.
  3. Arrange refreshments and any meals desired.
  4. Agree to contact every agency associated with alcohol and drug issues in the area, inviting support and secondary sponsorship. This would involve use of their name, distribution to their contact lists and other assistance as required in the local plan.
  5. Compute a registration charge to include expenses, a profit item for the sponsor that is reasonable and within the means of the target audience.
  6. Open the workshop program with a welcome and general introduction.
  7. Staff the registration desk at the workshop.
